REMARKS BY AMBASSADOR OF INDIA SHRI ABHISHEK SINGH AFTER HIS MEETING WITH MAYOR OF PUERTO LA CRUZ ON 19 NOVEMBER 2020

 

          I am indeed happy to be in Sotillo Municipality of Puerto La Cruz.  Today I met the Mayor of Sotillo in Puerto La Cruz Her Excellency Hermina Garcia.  This is a major refining hub for oil in Venezuela.  India’s ONGC Videsh Ltd also has an office here.

2.       During my meeting with Mayor, we discussed the possibility of having closer linkage of the city of Puerto la Cruz, which is an economic hub.  Mayor decided to nominate one official especially for India related matters.  Mr. K.P. Babu, Country Manager ONGC Videsh Ltd also accompanied me in the meeting. 

3.       In addition, I discussed with the Mayor the possibility of linkages in the field of education and academia.  Puerto La Cruz has some important universities like University Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho, Universidad de Oriente.  We agreed that there would be quarterly meeting with the Commercial Wing of the Embassy and the officials of Mayor office.

4.       During the meeting ONGC Videsh also conveyed to work closely with Mayor’s office.  I briefed the Mayor on the various steps taken with Government of Venezuela in the fight against COVID-19.

5.       We thanked the Mayor for meeting today and decided to follow up on the topics discussed.  I wished the people of Puerto la Cruz for their Christmas Season and conveyed our greetings for the welfare and progress of the people during these difficult times.
