ICWF Revised Guidelines

The Indian Community Welfare Fund helps Indian nationals in distress or emergencies abroad.

About the fund

The ICWF was set up in 2009 to assist overseas Indian nationals in distress, in the most deserving cases, on a means-tested basis. Revised guidelines came into force on 1 September 2017.

Help available to Indian nationals in distress

  • Boarding and lodging
  • Air passage to India for stranded Indian nationals
  • Legal assistance, including for those falsely implicated or in jail
  • Legal and financial help to Indian women abandoned, cheated or abused by NRI, PIO or foreign spouses
  • Payment of small fines and penalties, including for release from jail or detention
  • Transport of mortal remains to India, or local cremation or burial, where the family cannot afford it
  • Emergency medical care for accidents and life-threatening conditions

Subject to funds, the ICWF also supports community welfare events and improvements in consular services.
