General guidelines
- The Embassy does not attest documents issued in India. Birth and death certificates, affidavits, degrees and marriage certificates issued in India must be apostilled in India.
- Documents not in English need a certified or official translation.
- If you cannot come in person, affidavits and powers of attorney must be notarised and legalised locally.
Services
Attestation of documents
Documents executed in Venezuela or elsewhere in the Embassy’s jurisdiction must first be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country. Submit them with your passport and a copy of your residence permit.
Power of attorney
Paste one photograph at the end of the power of attorney with your signature and passport details below it. The document must be notarised (with the seal partly over the photograph) and legalised by the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs — or by the island government for Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Bring one more identical photograph and your original passport. Every signatory must follow these steps.
Birth registration
To give a child Indian citizenship, register the birth with the Embassy within one year. See Passport Services.
NRI certificate
Issued to Indian nationals who have stayed abroad for more than 182 days. Submit the form, your original passport with entry and exit stamps, your residence permit (with English translation) and a notarised declaration of stay abroad. Fee: US$ 25 + US$ 2 ICWF.
NOC for a passport for a minor in India
When a parent is abroad and a minor’s passport application is filed in India, a consent letter or affidavit attested by the Embassy must be attached.
Death of an Indian national
To send mortal remains to India, submit the original death certificate with one copy, the mortuary’s embalming and sealing certificate, and the deceased’s passport for cancellation.
Sending ashes to India
Submit a letter from the next of kin (date, place and cause of death), a request for a customs clearance letter with flight details and the name of the person carrying the ashes, a copy of the deceased’s passport, a sealing certificate, the death certificate and the passport for cancellation.
